The Georgia Bulldogs escaped Neyland Stadium with a 44-41 comeback win over the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday.

There were questions about quarterback Gunner Stockton going into the game, and he answered many of them with an outstanding performance as the Dawgs came back three separate times to earn the big win and move to 3-0 on the season.

Gunner Stockton proved he's willing to throw it downfield

Stockton's first pass of the game was a perfect deep ball down the right sideline, connecting with Colbie Young for 45 yards.

Not only was it an answer to the Vols' quick touchdown to begin the game, it was a statement that offensive coordinator Mike Bobo isn't afraid to let his QB fire the ball downfield to get those big chunk plays that are necessary to be prolific on offense.

His most impressive throw of the game came late in the fourth quarter where he dropped a beautiful 26 yard touchdown pass in the basket to London Humphreys that brought the Dawgs to within two points. Stockton then connected with Zach Branch to tie the game at 38 which ultimately sent the game to overtime.

Gunner Stockton showed tremendous leadership and poise in his first true road game

Many were also concerned that Stockton would be overwhelmed by the raucous atmosphere in Knoxville in what was his first true road game as the Georgia starter. He however proved that the primetime SEC lights were not too bright for him.

Stockton was solid as a rock, getting his troops in position out of the huddle and running tempo in a hostile environment.

When the camera caught Stockton on the sideline between series, he had a steely, resolved glare and seemed eager to get back out there as the defense struggled to contain Joey Aguilar and the Tennessee offense all afternoon long. He showed the self-assured confidence that Carson Beck lacked a season ago, and it was obvious that his no-quit attitude rubs off on his teammates.

Stockton finished the day 23-31 for 302 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also toted the rock 13 times for another 38 yards with a rushing touchdown as well.

The Tiger, Georgia native made a statement to all the Dawg fans who were nervous after a step back against Austin Peay in week two, and he earned the trust with his unflappable performance in the big SEC opener.
