It is natural for any college football fan to be a little nervous when their favorite team has to transition to a new starting quarterback. For Georgia football fans, that is exactly what is happening in 2025 as Gunner Stockton in all likelihood will be the first time starter this fall.
Sure Stockton technically started one game in the College Football Playoff last season, but this will be his first time feeling like the true starter.
As mentioned, starting a new quarterback is scary no matter how talented or highly ranked they were coming out of high school. Stockton however was not one of the elite recruits out of his high school class as 247Sports had him as their No. 110 player in the country.
So while the rest of the country continues to doubt Georgia and Stockton entering the season, there is one big reason why Georgia fans shouldn't be worried. And that is because of their recent success with new starting quarterbacks.
Georgia's previous 3 new starting QBs all found immediate success
The last three quarterbacks for Georgia before Stockton were Jake Fromm, Stetson Bennett and Carson Beck. There were similar questions surrounding these three QBs before their first starts just like Stockton, but all three had phenominal seasons during their first year under center.
Fromm led Georgia to the National title game while Bennett went out and won the National Championship. Beck didn't win a championship in his first year as starter, but he led Georgia to a perfect 12-0 regular season record.
All three of these quarterbacks had elite pieces surrounding them on both sides of the ball that helped them accomplish such great seasons, but that will also be the case for Stockton. In fact, this year's team will have the highest blue-chip ratio out of any season in the Kirby Smart era.
In just a few short months Georgia fans will find out how good of a quarterback Stockton can be, but if UGA fans have learned anything form Smart's tenure they shouldn't feel worried at all.
