How Georgia can quietly become the winner of the Michigan debacle

Here is how Georgia can take advantage of Michigan's recruiting class being in total disarray now.

Late Wednesday afternoon presented quite the bombshell across all of college football. Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore was let go for scandalous reasons. At first, people were laughing at the termination, only to find out it was a much more serious offense... While new evidence comes out about Moore's end at Michigan, what are we to make of the Wolverines' signing class now?

High school players who have signed the national letters of intent can now back out of them. This is because when a head coach leaves a program, any player can hit the transfer portal or opt out of their NLI, so long as it happens within a certain timeframe. For a team like Georgia which has such tremendous stability at head coach in Kirby Smart, maybe the Bulldogs can take advantage of this?

One such player Georgia should be targeting at this juncture is five-star running back Savion Hiter. According to the 247Sports Composite, Hiter is the No. 1 running back in his class, the No. 1 player from Virginia, and the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting cycle. He may have committed to Michigan back in August, but Georgia is one of four schools Hiter took an official visit to this summer.

The two other teams that Hiter visited were the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Tennessee Volunteers.

Savion Hiter could be the perfect late addition to round out UGA's class

Hiter took his official visit to Georgia back on June 6. This came after the Ohio State visit on May 30, but before his visit to Michigan on June 13 and a week later to Tennessee on June 20. While Ohio State and Tennessee are retaining their head coaches, there will be major shake-ups on the coaching staffs in both Columbus and Knoxville. Brian Hartline is leaving Ohio State. Tim Banks is out at UTK...

One of the reasons Hiter may consider Georgia this time around is how well the Bulldogs utilize a healthy stable of running backs. They make sure everyone gets their touches out of the backfield, as Kirby Smart has fully recognized that the bell-cow back approach is never going to cut it in the deep SEC. For the most part, he always has two or more running backs he can lean on in any given season.

Truth be told, Hiter may just ride it out and see who Michigan ends up hiring to replace Moore in short order. One such candidate would be Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer. He was recruited heavily by Alabama at least initially, but the Crimson Tide have really struggled to run the football under him the last two years. If Georgia were to somehow flip Hiter, that would do wonders for their 2026 class, too.

The most important thing here is allowing Hiter enough time to make the best decsion for himself.
