Georgia football has been one of the programs who have made the most noise in the transfer portal so far this offseason. Much of that noise has come from the Bulldogs landing many elite players out of the portal, but they have lost some key pieces as well.
The most noteworthy loss came when Carson Beck announced he was moving on to Miami (FL), but Beck was not the only quarterback who diecided to leave Athens. Fellow QB Jaden Rashada also decided to enter the transfer portal this offseason after tumbling to the No. 4 spot on the depth chart this past season.
Rashada came to Georgia from Arizona State where he found some success in his one year with the Sun Devils. That success however did not follow him to Georgia as he did not appear in one game with Georgia.
That is likely why Rashada entered the portal a second time in hopes of finding a school he can play at immediately. And he ended up choosing Sacramento State, who is an FCS program looking to make the jump to FBS.
While it is easy to speculate why Rashada entered the portal, it is far more interesting to hear from Rashada himself as he recently spoke about why he entered the portal with CBS Sports' Cameron Salerno.
“I learned a lot there," Rashada told Salerno. “I did notice being able to get your feet wet at first and come in and sit last year, I was itching to play football. Not only that, be in the right fit and the right scheme with the right coaches. That’s what was most important.”
Rashada is just looking to play ball
At the end of the day, Rashada is just looking to play football and be the starter for the 2025 season. The chances of that happening at Georgia were very slim as Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi were clearly above him on the depth chart.
So if Rashada wants to play during the 2025 season, his only option was to transfer to a new program. Rashada also believes that Sacramento State is a great fit for him, which hopefully is the case because it would be nice to see his career finally take off.
