Georgia football has officially lost five-star quarterback Jared Curtis. This news shouldn't be all that surprising because it was trending that way for the past month, but Tuesday marked the day that Curtis made his decision official.
This now marks the second time that Georgia has lost a five-star quarterback right before signing day in the last three years. But this time felt different. This recruitment ended up showcasing everything that is wrong with the recruiting landscape in college football today, and it's unfortunate that Georgia was caught in the middle of it all.

Flips happen all the time in recruiting, so Curtis deciding to change his mind isn't really a problem. But the manner in which he did so is what rubbed people the wrong way.
Tuesday wasn't the first time that Curtis decommitted from Georgia. He originally committed to Georgia in early 2024 before opening his recruitment back up towards the end of last year. There was nothing wrong with this decision at the time because he wanted a chance to pursue more schools, so instead of leading Georgia on he decommitted and pursued other options.
He ultimately decided that Georgia was still the right place for him this May, and he said multiple times that his recruitment was over. Even when Vanderbilt turned up the heat he still was adamant that Georgia had nothing to worry about. But that ended up not being the case, and Georgia now has to enter the early signing period without a quarterback in their class.
On top of his decision making, the media messed up big time on Tuesday. On3 reported that Curtis officially flipped to Vanderbilt around noon, but Curtis was quick to say that he had not made his final decision yet. It's likely that he had already told On3 he was flipping his commitment, but in an attempt to be first breaking a story the media jumped the gun and stole his spotlight.
The good news for Georgia is that they will get their chance at revenge next season when Curtis and Vanderbilt come to Athens. It's unfortunate that Georgia now has to root against him, but that is what happens when someone does Georgia dirty at the last second.
