Georgia football and Alabama have always proven to be a contender for "Game of the Year" every time they face off. This time, Alabama travels to Athens for the first time since 2015.
This game is slightly different than games of the past, and not just because of the location.
Alabama was not physical at all against Florida State in their season opener, and that typically is not the case for a Crimson Tide team. They allowed over 200 yards rushing while only running for less than 100 themselves. Georgia however has been thriving in the run game as they ran the ball 55 times against Tennessee.
Knowing Georgia will likely run the ball a lot again, UGA freshman running back Chauncey Bowens, who has already entered the spotlight in Athens, could really make a name for himself against Alabama on a national level.
Injury opens door for Freshman RB
Dwight Phillips is another name that has stood out to Georgia fans this season. The speedy running back has averaged over eight yards per carry so far this season which is more than anyone expected. However, the running back has dealt with a foot injury since the Tennessee game.
Coach Kirby Smart gave a positive update on the running back in a recent press conference, but don't expect him to get as many carries as he normally does against Alabama.
With Phillips not getting as many touches, the door opens for guys like Bowens to step up into that role. Bowens has already proven to be a steady back for the Dawgs, getting 12 carries against Tennessee. Phillips' injury only gives him the chance to not only get more carries, but more yards against a weaker Alabama defensive line.
Old school Georgia offense vs. Alabama
The old school Georgia offense will be back this weekend just like it was against Tennessee. Expect not only Bowens, but the whole group of running backs to get a solid amount of carries. Bowens possesses an ability to show speed while also possessing elusiveness that compares to how Frazier was last season.
Georgia is going to play physical and run the ball as much as they can versus the Crimson Tide. Bowens has a unique opportunity this season to not only prove to his coach, but to the nation, that he will be a threat for the next three or more years at Georgia.
