Key injury update for star Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava
Georgia football once again has one of the biggest games this weekend in all of college football. Are you used to hearing that?
The Bulldogs will play host to No. 6 Tennessee with the entire country watching very closely as it is one of two matchups this weekend featuring two ranked teams. Both Georgia and Tennessee are fighting for their SEC championship and College Football Playoff lives, and in the case of Georgia, this is a must win game.
One of the biggest things to pay attention to leading up to every game are the injury reports. And while the first official reports won't come out until Wednesday, there is one big injury that both Georgia and Tennessee fans are watching closely. And that is star Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava.
Iamaleava suffered an upper body injury during the Vols 33-14 win over Mississippi State this past weekend. He missed the remainder of the game after this injury, so it immediately brought into question if he would be ready to go for this weekend’s game or not.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel provided a big update on the status of his QB earlier this week.
“(Iamaleava) was with us today, had a really good day,” Heupel said via dawgnation.com. “Feel like he’ll be in great shape for Saturday. But you guys can monitor the (availability) report on Wednesday and track it through the week.”
Nico Iamaleava likely to play this Saturday
According to Heupel, Iamaleava is in "great shape" to play this Saturday when the Vols come to Athens. This is significant news because Iamaleava is one of the top QBs in the entire country.
So far this season, Iamaleava has completed 144 of 221 passes for 1,879 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has also has only thrown four interceptions, which is something Georgia fans wish they could say about Carson Beck.
It's never right to ever hope that any player is injured, but it's hard to deny how much of an advantage it would have given Georgia if Iamaleava was sidelined. But it appears Iamaleava will be good to go this weekend, which will make the potential UGA win that much better.
