Key outside factor deserves some blame for Georgia’s loss
After such a bad loss to Ole Miss on Saturday, it’s natural for everyone to try and figure out what went wrong with Georgia football. And the easy answer to that is everything.
The offense failed to move the ball effectively all game long. Georgia’s defense was exposed. Kirby Smart and his staff were wildly out-coached by Lane Kiffin and his Ole Miss staff. All of those things, and much more, went wrong for Georgia against Ole Miss which led the Bulldogs to lose their first game to a team other than Alabama in over four years.
But there’s another factor that played a role in this loss.
Georgia’s schedule.
Georgia’s schedule played a minor role in loss to Ole Miss
Everyone plays a difficult schedule in the SEC, that’s just how it goes in this conference. But it’s safe to say that Georgia got a very unlucky draw when it comes to who they had to face in their 8-game conference schedule.
The Bulldogs had to face Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss all on the road. Then up next they have Tennessee which thankfully is at home. Those are the four best teams in the conference this season (excluding Georgia), so it’s no wonder they have two losses already.
Georgia also hasn’t played a home game in what feels like a century. Their last home game was on Oct. 12 against Mississippi State, which by the time next weekend’s game gets here will be over a month. So while everyone else gets to play some games at home, with at least one against a really bad team, Georgia’s been living on the road against the best teams in the country.
This however is Georgia. The expectation is that none of that should matter. But it’s impossible to not at least credit their schedule even a little bit for what’s transpired the last couple weeks.
Hopefully getting back home will be helpful for Georgia in their final three games, especially against another elite team like Tennessee on Saturday.
