Out of all the freshmen coming in this year it is Kaiden Prothro who is arguably the most anticipated. Having one of the highest ranked tight ends come to Georgia will certainly do that, but Prothro has a unique skill set that you just don't see very often.
Prothro already has the size that most veteran college players can't even achieve. He also has the ability to play any position on offense from tight end to wide receiver, and that creates a matchup nightmare for any defense as they try to figure out how to defend him.
Georgia fans saw this matchup problem on full display at G-Day as he made a few big plays during the scrimmage, and after the game Kirby Smart expressed how big of an asset he is for Georgia's offense.
"We think he's a mismatch," Smart said via 247sports.com. "He's really an elite catch radius guy. He put that on display today. And that kind of summed up his spring in his ability to go make plays on the perimeter. He's a matchup problem."
Entering this season one big question was who would become Gunner Stockton's most reliable targets. He is losing nearly all of his top pass catchers from last year, so he needs a few players to step up and pick up where those guys left off.
Prothro will more than likely be one of those guys even as a true freshman simply because he is impossible to defend. Georgia can line him up in multiple spots based on the scheme the defense is in so they can create a matchup nightmare on almost every down he is in the game.
Georgia will need many other receivers and tight ends to step up this season as well, but it feels like a foregone conclusion at this point that Prothro will be a massive piece to the offense.
