Georgia football wide receiver Colbie Young has taken one step closer to returning to the field for the Bulldogs this season. After being suspended in October on charges of assault on an unborn child and battery, the accuser in this case asked for all of the charges against Young to be dropped.

This is a great sign when it comes to how soon Young could make a return to the field, but there is only one problem. Just because the woman asked for the charges to be dropped does not mean that they will.

Kirby Smart was asked about this ongoing situation and the status of Young during his press conference on Monday, and he explained that there is still a ways to go for Young to make a return.

"The legal process has to play itself out," Smart said via si.com. "We will continue to help Colbie (Young) in every way we can, allowing him to use the facility, working out, but we have to let the legal process play out."

Colbie Young is ready to go once charges are dropped

While Georgia and Young wait to see if his charges will be dropped or not, Smart shared that he is keeping fresh and working out in the Georgia facilities. Young is unable to officially practice with the team since he is still suspended, but since he is able to work out still he theoretically is able to keep himself in shape for when he is able to make his return.

It's unclear at this time if he will be able to make a return or not this season, but he will surely be welcomed with open arms if the charges are dropped. Georgia's receivers lead the country in drops this season, so based on that stat alone they can use all the help they can get.

Everyone knows how slowly the court system can work at times, and with only three games remaining in the season that could mean Young won't be able to make his return this year. But the hope is that these charges will be dropped any day now, meaning Young can get back on the field immediately.
