Kirby Smart has an opening on his coaching staff that was created when Will Muschamp was hired by Texas. This opening is just an analyst role so it really isn't that important to fill, but Smart would be wise to try and fill that role with a big name.

It may seem unlikely that a big name coach would want to only be an analyst, but Smart has been able to convince some coaches to do that over the years while they are in between jobs. That is exactly what Smart did with Muschamp and what he could try to do with former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

Legendary NFL head coach would be the perfect fit on Georgia's coaching staff

Tomlin decided to step away from the Steelers this offseason after being their head coach since 2007. He obviuosly is qualified to be a head coach anywhere in the NFL or in college, but reports have indicated that he may want to at least take a year off from coaching. That is why becoming an analyst for Georgia would be the perfect job for him because it really isn't much of a commitment.

Tomlin however doesn't have any coaching ties to Georgia, but his daughter is on the gymnastics team. So if Smart wanted he could use that connection to try and bring Tomlin onto his coaching staff.

As mentioned, Tomlin's role as an analyst would be very lowkey. He wouldn't be coaching during any games and wouldn't go on any recruiting trips either. He essentially would be responsible for watching film and designing schemes that Georgia could use against all of their opponents.

Knowing how little of a commitment this would be for Tomlin makes a move to Georgia make a lot of sense. He could still be around football as much or as little as he wants and would also be able to watch his daughter and the Georgia gymnastics team whenever he wants.

Will Smart do it? Who knows, but he would be wise to at least try if Tomlin is serious about taking a year off from being a head coach.
