Gunner Stockton has quickly blossomed into the perfect quarterback for Georgia. Not only is he dominating on the field, but he is also the perfect leader for the team as well.

Kirby Smart spoke about his quarterback during his press conference on Monday, and he shared three things that Stockton has been excelling at that don’t necessarily show up on the stat sheet.

“Toughness, he’s brought wisdom. He’s brought consistency. He’s made good decisions with the ball in terms of keeping us out of bad situations… He’s improved throughout the season, and if he continues to do that he’s going to make us very hard to defend.”

Anyone can look at Stockton’s stats this season and see how great of a player he’s been. He has already surpassed 2,000 passing yards this season while also accounting for 22 total touchdowns as well. But it’s the intangibles Smart shared in the above quote where he has arguably been at his best.

One of the qualities Smart mentioned is Stockton’s toughness, which everyone should easily recognize in him. No matter how big of a hit he takes during a game he gets right back up like nothing happened and is immediately ready for the next play.

On top of his toughness, Smart has been impressed with Stockton’s wisdom and consistency as well. And it goes without saying how important those two qualities are for any quarterback in the SEC.

Stockton will need to be at his best both statistically on the field and with these intangible qualities if Georgia is going to beat Texas. But Stockton has been a near perfect quarterback this season for Georgia, so there’s no reason to think he won’t excel against the Longhorns again on Saturday.
