Kirby Smart details how close Georgia was to a Transfer Portal disaster

Kirby Smart tells a completely different story about Nate Frazier and how close he was to leaving Georgia.

The Transfer Portal continues to dominate the college football world every offseason. That is especially the case at Georgia as they are under a microscope each year due to the level of talent on their team and the type of players they target in the portal.

Because of that, every year there will be rumors of a few Bulldogs who are thinking about entering the portal. This past year the biggest Transfer Portal rumor involved Nate Frazier.

Frazier thankfully ended up re-signing with the program, and on Tuesday Smart was asked about how close he was to actually leaving. And in true Smart fashion he wasn't willing to give any information away.

"Yeah, almost every player re-signed, so that's not a big deal," Smart said via 247sports.com. "That's a big deal to you guys and all that. It's like, to get a player to stay, they typically do re-sign. So I'm very pleased with where Nate is."

Kirby Smart hints at Nate Frazier almost entering the Transfer Portal

Smart doesn't appear to give away any details about how close Frazier was to leaving Georgia or not. But it was what he didn't say that said a lot.

Smart could've said that there was never a chance he was going to enter the portal. He could've said that Frazier never once even thought about leaving Georgia. But that isn't what he said. All he said was that Frazier ended up re-signing with the program and anything that happened before that was irrelevant.

This could be a sign that Frazier was seriously considering leaving Georgia and had to be convinced to stick around. If that is what happened then there is no chance Smart would ever admit it to the public. At the same time thought this statement from Smart could mean absolutely nothing as well.

Regardless, Frazier is back for what is likely his final season of college football and that is the only thing that truly matters. He once again will join forces with fellow running back Chauncey Bowens who is back for another season as well, and after the year they both had last year there is a chance they could be the best duo in the country.
