Easily the biggest talking point coming off of Georgia's 34-20 win against Florida this weekend was the performance from quarterback Carson Beck.
Beck had a solid performance in some aspects as he completed 25 of 40 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns. But the thing that was problematic, and has become an ongoing issues all season, is his turnover problems.
Beck finished with three interceptions against Florida, which was the second game in a row with three interceptions. To be fair to Beck, the third interception was off a tipped ball so there really is't anything he can do there, but the first two in the first half were brutal.
This stretch of poor performances has Georgia football fans very concerned, but it sounds like Kirby Smart does not share that same sentiment.
"No, I'm not concerned with it because, I mean, you throw the ball, that's going to happen sometimes," Smart said via 247sports.com. "I mean, we've got to try to do a good job of preventing it, but we also won the game because we can throw the ball, right? We weren't able to run the ball down their throat in the fourth quarter, we threw the ball."
Kirby Smart is not worried about Beck's interceptions
At the end of the day, Beck's turnovers are a serious problem. It sounds like Smart knows this is something that needs to be worked on, but at the same time he knows that Beck is a big reason why Georgia was able to beat Florida.
If you take his tunrovers away, Beck actually played a very good game. He showed up when Georgia needed him most late in the game, and some would argue that is when it matters most. With the game tied and Florida making crucial mistakes, Beck led the offense on two touchdown drives to put the game out of reach.
Sure his tunovers are an issue, there is no denying that, but Beck still deserves credit for the many great plays he did make. And when you think about it, scoring 34 points is pretty impressive after having three possessions wasted with an interception.
The Georgia offense is going to be scary if Beck is able to limit his turnovers. That is a big if, but it's something he surely will be working on and something he hopefully will improve on beginning this week against Ole Miss.
