This offseason has seen Big Ten and SEC fans going toe-to-toe as they debate who the best conference is. The Big Ten has won the last three National Championships while the SEC has sent far more players to the NFL, so both sides have a great argument to support their conference.

Kirby Smart hasn't discussed this debate in great length, but he did explain why he thinks the Big Ten has finally starting finding some success. He believes that the bottom of their conference is much worse than the SECs and those extra "bye weeks" allow them to be more fresh when the College Football Playoff begins.

Seems like a reasonable explanation, right? Big Ten fans don't think so and USA Today's Blake Toppmeyer came after Smart for his opinion.

Toppmeyer said that Smart should win the gold medal in mental gymnastics because of this opinion. He thinks its preposterous that the SEC having to face teams like Arkansas instead of Minnesota is the reason why the Big Ten is winning national titles right now and not the SEC.

But it's impossible to deny what Smart is saying.

The SEC has had far more NFL Draft picks every single year which includes this past draft. Most of the SEC teams also have multiple draft picks while the bottom of the Big Ten have one at most. So that right there proves that the SEC's schedule is more difficult and gives them less breaks during the season than the Big Ten.

And if other teams are able to take more weeks off then they will automatically be more fresh when the playoff begins.

This idea will be debated forever, but the only thing that Smart can do is overcome it and win another title for the SEC.
