Georgia football found a way to beat Tennessee this past weekend in overtime, but that victory didn’t come without a few injuries. One Bulldog who picked up a small injury is running back Dwight Phillips, who hurt his foot against the Volunteers.

Georgia’s running back room has as much depth as any other position, but Phillips has shown a lot of promise this year, so losing him would be tough to overcome. But according to Kirby Smart, Phillips’ injury isn’t a concern whatsoever and he should be ready to play for their upcoming tilt against Alabama.

"He (Phillips) seems fine. He did some work yesterday," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "He's got a midfoot that's bothered him some, but he didn't hold him back for much yesterday."

Dwight Phillips needs a bigger role

As mentioned, Georgia’s running back room arguably has more depth than they know what to do with. Nate Frazier will always be the starting running back, but there are countless quality options available behind him.

Phillips hasn’t been the No. 2 back this year when it comes to number of carries he receives, but he’s making a good argument for why he needs more playing time.

Against Tennessee he had just five carries which he turned into 29 yards which averages out to an impressive 5.8 yards per carry. On the season overall he has been even better than that as he sits at 8.5 yards per carry. If a running back is able to be that effective with the ball then they should be getting more than five carries in a game, so hopefully going forward Smart and Mike Bobo recognize that and he reward Phillips with more touches.

Before he gets any touches though, Phillips needs to stay healthy, and thankfully it sounds like his health is not a concern going forward.
