Kirby Smart has a message for Georgia's offensive line

One of the most important groups on any team is the offensive line. Georgia football could have the best quarterback, running back and pass catchers in the country, but if they have terrible offensive line play then none of that will matter.

Last year the Bulldogs didn't have terrible offensive line play, but they did not live up to the standards set at Georgia. That fact is arguably one of the greatest reasons why Georgia's offense struggled at times last season.

But as UGA transitions to the 2025 season, there are a lot of question mark surrounding this group after four starters departed for the NFL. That means that Georgia will have to rely on their youth and guys with less experience next year, and Kirby Smart had a message for those players as spring ball began.

“We’ve kinda had this coming for a while, so it’s been an anticipation of how we can create depth in our signing classes,” Smart shared via dawgnation.com. “We’ve got a lot of young offensive linemen in our signing classes who haven’t played who need to grow up and play.”

Does Georgia need to add help from the transfer portal?

Due to all of the inexperience on the offensive line, it begs the question to be asked if Smart and his staff should dip their toes into the transfer portal and try and grab an offensive lineman to help this group. While that may seem like a smart thing to do, Georgia hasn't added a transfer on the offensive line since before Smart's tenure. So even when the spring transfer portal window opens it's unlikely for Georgia to make any moves.

So that means this offseason is even more important as the guys in the room are likely going to be the ones playing this fall. That can be a little scary for Georgia fans because they really don't know what they're going to get out of this group, but Smart and his staff do. So at the end of the day they need to be trusted, and hopefully they will "grow up" fast like Smart stated.
