Can Ryan Puglisi shock the world and win the starting job over Gunner Stockton?

The consensus among most Georgia football fans is that Gunner Stockton will be the starting quarterback in the fall. Some are even going as far as predicting that Stockton will have a better season than Carson Beck did in 2024 at Georgia.

And while there is definitely a chance Stockton does play better than Beck, that can't happen unless he wins the QB competition this offseason against Ryan Puglisi.

Considering that Stockton was the backup to Beck last season, he definitely has a leg up on Puglisi now that spring ball is underway. But that can change in a hurry based on how both quarterbacks perform during the spring and offseason months.

And according to a recent statement from Kirby Smart, Puglisi might stand more of a chance to win the starting job than most fans realize.

"Yeah, both those guys are doing a great job," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "I'm really pleased with where both of them are at. Ryan's taking some reps with the ones. Gunner continues to grow and get better. I think both those guys are doing a great job."

Ryan Puglisi is getting some run with the starters

According to the above statement from Smart, Puglisi is going through some of the drills with the other starters on offense. This is very significant because that means he has a legit chance in Smart's eyes to win the starting job.

If the job was already won by Stockton then he would be getting every single rep with the ones, but at this point in the spring that is not the case.

It is unlikely for Smart to announce who the starting quarterback is for the 2025 season opener anytime soon. In fact, Georgia fans may not know until the offense takes the field for the first time this fall. But that may not be such a bad thing because the more competition there is on the roster throughout the offseason the better the final outcome will be.
