Entering spring Georgia already had one of the best 2027 recruiting classes in the country. They however do not have the No. 1 class, and at Georgia that is always the goal.
There is a lot of work to do to end up with the top ranked recruiting class, but Kirby Smart took a step in the right direction when they earned a commitment from coveted offensive lineman Ty Johnson on Saturday.
Smart was pumped about this commitment, so he took to social media to express just how excited he was that Johnson chose Georgia over a few SEC rivals.

Kirby Smart couldn’t contain his excitement after the Georgia football program earned a commitment from Ty Johnson
Johnson isn't the highest ranked recruit in the country as 247Sports only has him as a three-star and the No. 471 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 42 ranked player at his position and the No. 11 player from his home state of South Carolina.
Smart and Georgia however don't care about rankings. If they think a player is good enough to play at Georgia then that is all that matters, and they clearly think he is plenty talented enough to make an impact in Athens.
This commitment is extra special for Smart because Johnson is a legacy recruit. His father Travis also played offensive line at Georgia at the same time Smart played. That's right, his father was teammates with Smart which is a very unique and special connection that doesn't happen too often at any school.
Johnson is the seventh player to commit to Georgia's 2027 recruiting class. They are now the No. 4 class in the entire country with a great chance to move even higher if they add more players soon.
But for now Georgia fans can celebrate just like Smart because this commitment is more special than most.
