Kirby Smart sent an interesting text message the morning before Georgia's win over Mississippi State. Smart didn''t text his family, he didn't text a player or member of his coaching staff, he chose to send a text message to Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian.
Why did he send this message? When Smart brought it up during his postgame press conference on Saturday he said he "wanted to see what he was doing." But there was a lot more to this text than Smart just wanting to check in with a friend. Smart wanted to get into Sarkisian's head because he knew how big of a game Georgia had against Texas next week. So he was doing anything he could to gain even a small advantage a week before that game even began.

The biggest game of the season is quickly approaching for Georgia. The Bulldogs are 6-1 in conference play and the No. 5 team in the country, but there is a lot of work still to do if they are going to repeat as SEC Champions.
Georgia's hopes of winning the SEC are quickly slipping away as both Texas A&M and Alabama are still undefeated in conference play. If neither of them lose then Georgia will not make it to Atlanta regardless of what they do, but if UGA loses to Texas they won't make it there either. So Smart, knowing how important this matchup is on Saturday, texted Sarkisian in an effort to get in his head.
Texas was on a bye this past week, so Sarkisian likely sat on his couch and watched Georgia's entire game agaisnt Mississippi State. But this message from Smart showed Sarkisian that he was already thinking about their upcoming matchup with the Longhorns even before their game agianst Mississippi State began.
Will this message actually impact the game next week? Probably not, but Smart sent a message to Sarkisian that this game means everything to him and that he will do whatever it takes to beat him for a third time in a row. Now all that's left to do is deliver on that message on Saturday.
