Kirby Smart jokes (maybe) about Georgia’s pass rush after sound defeat of Texas

As he was leaving the field, Kirby Smart had a quick interview with ESPN's Laura Rutledge, and he may (or may not) have thrown a little shad at his D-line.

Kirby Smart is always one of the best interviews. He's animated, emotional, says what he thinks, and has a great sense of humor.

All of that was demonstrated on Saturday night after Georgia's 35-10 thumping of Texas at Sanford Stadium, when Smart was stopped by ESPN reporter Laura Rutledge to get his immediate thoughts on the big win.

The interview was a bland as many of those quick postgame chats are, with standard "how do you explain..." and "how do you feel..." type questions. But Rutledge interjected a quick one as Kirby gave his thoughts about the game.

Did Kirby Smart throw a little shade at his defensive line?

"How about your pass rush?" Rutledge quipped with a little grin on her face. Kirby's answer was...well, quite interesting.

"They got after it, didn't they. It's about time...nah just kidding" Smart said with an evil little chuckle.

But was he kidding? In every joke there's an element of truth, and the truth is that Georgia's pass rush has been less than the legendary levels Bulldog fans have become accustomed to, and as a defensive specialist that has to be a point that has gnawed at the Georgia head coach all season.

Georgia's defense harkened back to the days of 2021-22 on Saturday night, and it was a refreshing site for the Bulldog Nation. Texas quarterback Arch Manning was sacked three times and harassed countless others, and the Dawgs only gave up 23 rushing yards in total all night.

If the defensive line can get after it like that against Georgia Tech in two weeks, Kirby Smart may need to keep throwing shade their way.
