In case you missed the news, Georgia football hosted their first scrimmage of the spring this past Saturday. The scrimmage unfortunately was behind closed doors, so no fans were able to watch like they can at G-Day, but Kirby Smart did comment on the scrimmage and how he felt it went during his press conference on Tuesday.
"That we got a long way to go. That was the consensus," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "I did think that cooler temperatures prevailed, which made for less adversity in terms of, can I push through? It's more game-like to me the cooler it is because they have fresher legs, they can play more snaps. I think it was a faster game."
Smart not pleased with his team during scrimmage
Smart unsurprisingly did not share much information about the scrimmage, but he did say that his team has a “long way to go” before the season begins this fall. This comment is not shocking to hear at all as it is something he says every spring, but with so much time left in the offseason Georgia fans should not be fearful or concerned about the team being ready to go by the end of August.
Interesting comments on the weather
Smart did share an interesting comment about the weather during Saturday’s scrimmage in that it was cooler than it typically is. Most fans prefer the warmer weather when they go watch a football game, but Smart apparently prefers it to be a little colder.
According to Smart, this allowed his players’ legs to stay fresher meaning they are able to get more snaps in before exhausting his team. And after hearing that the team has a long way to go still, it is very encouraging to hear that they were able to get more reps in than normal on Saturday.
