The running back position turned into a big problem last season for Georgia, but the most significant issue that group faced no longer seems to be a problem.
Last season Georgia's depth at running back was challenged after the group suffered countless injuries throughout the season. This propelled freshman Nate Frazier into the starting running back spot, which everyone knows went extremely well for him. But Georgia can't solely rely on him this season, even if Kirby Smart and the team knows he is their leader out of the backfield.
Smart recently spoke about Georgia's running back room as a whole, and it's clear that he is very excited about what this group can accomplish this season.
“At running back? Pleased with where those guys are. Had scrimmages where we got to tackle live. All those guys continue to compete,” Smart shared via on3.com. “The biggest thing is staying healthy so we can develop depth at that position.”

As mentioned, Frazier shined as Georgia's starting running back during the second half of last season after taking over a role he was never supposed to have as a true freshman. Frazier led the Bulldogs with 671 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while also averaging five yards per carry last season.
There are a few great options behind Frazier this season, which includes Illinois transfer running back Josh McCray. McCray has yet to take the field during fall camp because of an illness he is dealing with, but Smart recently said that he isn't far behind the rest of the group even with that being the case. Redshirt freshman Chauncy Bowens has also been a big surprise throughout camp as well and is someone who is quickly earning himself a lot of playing time as well.
While Frazier will receive a bulk of the carries this season, it is refreshing to hear that Georgia's running back depth is so deep this season. That way if the injury bug strikes UGA again, they will be more prepared this time around.
