Georgia football has been able to survive the offseason mostly unscathed when it comes to injuries. It however was only a matter of time until some Bulldogs suffered some injuries, and that is something Kirby Smart updated the media on during practice on Tuesday.
Here are the three injury updates Smart shared on Tuesday, courtesy of Jonathan Williams with si.com.
RB Josh McCray
Illinois transfer running back Josh McCray has yet to make an appearance during Georgia's fall camp. McCray isn't dealing with an injury per se, but he has been working through an illness that has kept him sidelined all fall camp.
His specific illness has not been publicly shared, but Smart did confirm that McCray isn't that far behind the rest of the group. That was the biggest fear with McCray's absence, so hopefully he'll be able to prove why he should be the No. 2 running back for Georgia this season once he is healthy again.
OL Malachi Toliver
Potentially the worst injury update of the three provided by Smart was the ankle injury suffered by offensive lineman Malachi Toliver. The severity of the injury was not shared by Smart, but this injury will hurt Georgia's depth at center which is the position that arguably had the least depth to it at the start of fall camp.
The hope is that this injury isn't significant for Toliver, because if it is Georgia could be one more injury away from having no traditional centers at their disposal.
WR Thomas Blackshear
True freshman wide receiver Thomas Blackshear reportedly suffered an ankle injury during Georgia's fall scrimmage last weekend. Similarly to Toliver, the severity of this injury was not discussed, but Georgia's wide receiver depth has taken it's first hit this season.
The good news is that Georgia has a ton of depth in their wide receiver room, so this injury shouldn't impact the group as a whole as the season approaches.
