At this point it seems impossible for Georgia football to go a game without suffering an injury to a key player. That once again happened during the Bulldogs' 31-17 win over Tennessee on Saturday.
Everyone knows how depleted Georgia's running back room already was. Three running backs, including leading rusher Trevor Etienne, were already out against Tennessee. Cash Jones made himself available for this game, but he was not even close to 100 percent. So Georgia was already having to move far down the depth chart to find some help for the running game.
And that included getting some help from wide receiver Dillon Bell.
Unfortunately Bell suffered what appeared to be a significant injury on Saturday that saw him unable to put any weight on his foot as he made his way to the sideline. Kirby Smart commented on this injury after the game, and unfortunately he did not have too much to share.
"It's ankle. I don't know if it's got a high component," Smart said via 247sports.com. "We looked at it tonight. He was not able to go. I don't know how severe it will be or how long it will be."
Injuries need to stop adding up
Georgia once again proved on Saturday that if they play to the best of their abilities that they can win a national championship. However, that will become nearly impossible if these injuries keep adding up.
Thankfully Georgia has an easy game against UMass coming up that should allow them to give some extra rest to their starters and key players. That hopefully will give Bell, as well as the entire running back room, some time to get healthy before the season finale against Georgia Tech.
So hopefully Smart uses this week to Georgia's advantage, and gives anyone who is even slightly hurt some extra time off this week.
