Kirby Smart provides two major Georgia football injury updates
One thing that Georgia football does not want to see before they travel to Texas to take on the No. 1 Longhorns are more injuries. Unfortuantely for UGA, that is exactly what has happened.
When speaking to the media both on Monday and directly after Georgia's 41-31 win over Mississippi State, Kirby Smart provided some updates to two key Bulldogs who have been injured.
Running Back Branson Robinson
First up is running back Branson Robinson. Robinson suffered an injury during the Mississippi State game on Saturday after accumulating three carries for 12 yards. As you probably already know, Robinson missed all of last season with an injury, so it was unfortunate to see him go down once again.
Directly after the game Smart did not know how serious this injury was, but on Monday he shared that Robinson could potnetially be out for a couple weeks.
"Branson has an MCL," Smart said via DawgNation.com. "I don’t know how many weeks it will be. He will not be available this week. The MCL is one of those that he has to heal himself. It was not the same leg injury that he previously had."
Thankfully Georgia has a deep running back room so they should be able to withstand his absence for the time being. Trevor Etienne, Nate Frazier, and Anthony Evans all had productive afternoons against Mississippi State on Saturday and I expect that to continue going forward.
Freshman running back Chauncey Bowens did not dress for Saturday's game either, so hopefully he can get healthy soon so the Bulldogs can have more depth to their backfield.
Offensive Lineman Tate Ratledge
Offensive lineman Tate Ratledge on the other hand is someone that Georgia is looking to get back from an injury. Ratledge sprained his ankle during the Bulldogs' win against Kentucky, and his absense on the offensive line has been felt. But according to Smart, Ratledge could be back very soon.
"Yeah, he’s much closer,” Smart said on Saturday. “He’s running. He’s on dry land running, pushing it. You know, he’s got a custom-made brace. And we keep hoping he gets better.”
Getting Ratledge back in the lineup against a team like Texas would go a long ways, but I'm not so sure he'll be quite ready to play a full game by then. Forcing him back too quickly may not be the best thing in the world to do, but in a game that feels like a must win that may be Georgia's only choice.
The injuries are beginning to rack up for the Bulldogs, so on top of getting a win this weekend I really hope no more significant injuries are suffered.
