One of the biggest talking points surrounding Georgia football this offseason is who their starting quarterback will be this fall. Most UGA fans assume it will be Gunner Stockton, but he will have to beat out a hungry Ryan Puglisi if he wants the job.
Kirby Smart was asked on Tuesday at SEC Media Days if Stockton is officially the starting QB for Georgia this fall, but Smart shared that the competition between Stockton and Puglisi is still ongoing.
"He's separated himself as a great leader on the team," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "If you try to bring people here that can affect others, and he's done that in spring practice. Ryan [Puglisi has] done awesome, too. Ryan and him are still going to be competing for everything they do. Gunner knows he's got to go out and play well."
Kirby Smart refuses to admit who the starting quarterback is
Georgia announced last week that three Bulldogs will be traveling to Media Days with Smart, and one of those three players was Stockton. This made most Georgia fans feel confident that Stockton will be the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs week one this fall.
Smart apparently does not agree with that thought process as he said Stockton and Puglisi are still competing every day. Stockton himself even admitted during Media Days on Tuesday that Smart has not told him that he will be the starting quarterback this fall.
Even after all of this though it still seems likely that Stockton will win the job. At this point however Smart won't be announcing his final decision before fall camp is underway. There is even a chance Georgia fans won't know who the starter is until the offense takes the field for the first time against Marshall on Aug. 30.
Thankfully the season is only a month and a half away, so UGA fans won't have to wait much longer to learn who the next starting quarterback at Georgia will be.
