Nearly every week for the past few years there has been a new article or viral social media post about how Georgia is struggling when it comes to NIL. Yes, arguably the No. 1 program in the NIL era has to answer if they are doing things correctly or not.
Kirby Smart was constantly being asked about Georgia's NIL strategy at SEC Media Days on Tuesday. At first he gave actual answers like he always does, but something in him changed by the end of the day as he went off about how frustrating it is to be asked the same question over and over an over again.

By this point everyone should know what Georgia's NIL strategy is. They do not want to overpay for any recruit or transfer, instead they want players to choose Georgia because they love football and the winning culture that has existed ever since Smart became head coach.
But these players don't get paid nothing. They make a good amount of NIL money the second they step foot on campus, and if they prove to be elite players then the are rewarded with larger deals to entice them stay in Athens instead of transferring.
That strategy statistically has worked beautifully for Georgia during the NIL era. For some reason though reporters can't stop questioning Smart about it and fans can't stop complaining about it.
So Smart finally had enough and stood up for himself and his program, so hopefully this will put an end to the ridiculous criticism he faces that frankly isn't warranted at.
Georgia's results on the field prove that no one should question their NIL strategy
Ever since NIL became legal in 2021 all anyone seems to care about is how much money a school has. And while that is an important factor in winning at the highest level today, it is not a guarantee that any school with a lot of money will win.
Just look at Georgia, they have a fair amount of NIL but they do not have as much as the other schools in the top tier of NIL spending. But Georgia has won more than anyone else in the country since 2021, so why does it matter if they spend less money?
Georgia has won two National Championships and three SEC titles during the NIL era. The only team that comes close to that is Michigan who has one National Championship and three Big Ten titles, but they did so with a lot of controversy along the way.
Georgia has been the best program in the country without a doubt during the NIL era, so the criticism they receive for how they spend their NIL money is not fair. That is even the case with the criticism Smart gets on a regular basis surrounding the fact that Georgia's 2027 recruiting class is ranked outside the top 10 right now.
At some point people just need to trust what he is doing. No one has won more than Smart, so if he can't be trusted in the NIL era than no one can.
