Georgia football had a surprising visitor at their practice on Tuesday as former Florida head coach Billy Napier was spotted around the team. At the time no one knew why he was there, but the fact that a rival head coach was seen lurking around Georgia’s practice took a lot of people by surprise.
After this news came out the only thing anyone wanted to know was why he was there. Thankfully Kirby Smart quickly revealed why he was there when he was asked about Nappier’s appearance.
“I mean, people don’t understand relationships in coaches,” Smart said via dawgnation.com. “Coaches have a brotherhood and a fraternity together, and his dad was good friends with my dad. His dad was really good friends with Coach Bobo, and we all grew up in the state of Georgia with our fathers coaching high school football. They were well-respected people. He’s been a friend for a long time, so he dropped by, yeah, but that was really it.”
Kirby Smart answers to why Billy Napier was at Georgia’s practice
According to Smart, the only reason Napier was at Georgia’s practice was because he now has the time to do things like that. Smart said that he has a close relationship with Napier, so like anyone close to Smart he let him come view practice for a day because there really isn’t a reason for him not to.
One thing Smart did not say was that Napier was there to help Georgia prepare for their upcoming matchup against Texas. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t offering some advice because Napier and Florida did beat Texas earlier this season.
If Napier did offer some advice Smart would likely never publically admit it. So at the end of the day all Georgia fans are ever going to know is that Napier was at UGA’s practice just to watch because he is close with Smart and has a lot of time on his hands now.
