Kirby Smart is known for getting after players on his microphone during practices. Every year there are a few stories and sometimes videos that go viral as people capture hilarious things he does or says on his mic.
This spring was no different as he gave former Auburn Tiger Amari Williams a warm welcome during one practice. But a new story from this spring has emerged as he reportedly called out a recruit who was currently on a visit during one of Georgia's practices.
"Man, he's been tremendous with me. I came down early. I had two meetings with him. It's been great, how he loves heavy on me, how he wants me. He came down to visit me in the winter, and he just loved how long my arms was," Wooten said via 247Sports.com. "Then I was out there when they practiced, and he was talking about me on the mic while they was practicing. One of their DBs, he dropped the pass, and then he was like, man, you got those Waylon Wooten hands."
Elite DL Waylon Wooten has special moment with Kirby Smart at practice
Waylon Wooten is an elite defensive lineman from the state of Georgia who visited Athens three times this spring. That in itself shows how interested both he is in Georgia and Kirby Smart is in him. In fact, Smart is so interested in him that he mentioned his name over his mic during one spring practice this year.
What Smart said wasn't necessarily a good thing because he was making fun of his hands, but defensive linemen aren't supposed to be good at catching the ball anyways. So this statement largely was a nice shout out to Wooten to let him know that he is on Smart's mind.
Wooten does have an official visit to Georgia on the books for later this summer, so don't be surprised if he becomes a UGA commit sooner rather than later.
