Georgia fans are all too familiar with who Trinidad Chambliss is. After transferring from a division two school last year he took over the Ole Miss offense and never looked back. His dominant season included two impressive performances against Georgia both in Athens and the College Football Playoff.

Kirby Smart has also learned exactly who Chambliss is and how dangerous he can be on a football field. But it wasn’t always that way as Smart recently explained that one year ago he had no clue who he was.

Kirby Smart wishes he learned who Trinidad Chambliss was much sooner

Just like everyone else, no one knew who Chambliss was when he transferred to Ole Miss last offseason. Lane Kiffin may have been the only person who knew who he was, but the rest of the country quickly learned just how great of a player he is.

Smart likely wishes he knew who Chambliss was long before he faced him on the field. Georgia didn’t add a quarterback out of the Transfer Portal during the 2025 offseason, but they did attempt to grab a few different quarterbacks. So there’s no telling what could’ve happened had Smart locked in on Chambliss in the portal.

Could he have convinced him to come to Georgia instead? Who knows, but that would’ve been a much better outcome than having to play against him two times last season.

The fun part about Chambliss is that he is an easy person to like. Georgia fans by no means will be cheering for him, especially when they play him in Oxford this fall, but he is a likable guy. That especially became the case after he took a shot at Lane Kiffin this offseason for how he handled his departure from Ole Miss.

Chambliss will be a handful for Georgia this fall, but Smart now knows exactly who he is and will hopefully come up with a better game plan to slow him down.
