Georgia football fans have it so good. Even when UGA doesn't play their best game they still find a way to get it done, and that's exactly what happened in their 44-41 overtime win against Tennessee Saturday night.
The Bulldogs did not have the best version of themselves throughout this game, but that's how it goes on the road in the SEC. Teams with championship aspirations however find a way to win these games regardless of the circumstances, and Georgia proved they are a championship contender Saturday night (even if they received a lot of help from Tennessee's kicker).
Kirby Smart spoke with ESPN analyst Holly Rowe live on TV immediately after the game, and his postgame quote is a great reminder to every Georgia fan just how good UGA has it.
"I'm really proud of this team," Smart told Holly Rowe immediately after Georgia's win. "Tennessee deserved to win this game. We didn't play our best game. I got a lot of respect for the way they played, but these kids I got, they never quit - they never quit. A lot of naysayers out there about Gunner, I thought he played his tail off today. We didn't play real well defensively, give Tennessee a lot of credit."
Kirby Smart knows Georgia has a special team
Smart said a few very important things in this quote, beginning with the fact that Tennessee arguably deserved to win. And it's hard to argue against that when Georgia needed their kicker to miss a field goal at the end of the fourth quarter just to force overtime.
Beyond that though, Smart said he is extremely proud of his team for finding a way to win even when they didn't have their best performance. Smart however is the most proud of Stockton because he proved all of his naysayers wrong and showed that he is a great quarterback and is capable of leading Georgia to championships.
The Bulldogs have another tough test up next as a home date with Alabama is up next. Thankfully Georgia has a bye week before that, because they are going to need some time to mentally recover after this game.
