Many Georgia fans are not in love with Mike Bobo right now. Georgia's offensive play caller did not have his best performance against Ole Miss during the Sugar Bowl, and many fans are blaming his poor play calling as the biggest reason why Georgia lost.
Whether that is fair or not is up for debate, but his failures have led to some fans to beg for him to be fired. Unfortunately for those fans that is not likely to happen based on a quote from Kirby Smart earlier this season.
“I don’t think he’s (Bobo) the right guy, I know he’s the right guy,” Smart said via athlonsports.com.
“I don’t really pay much attention to what our fans say, seek, what they feel like. I don’t respond to them, I don’t work for them,” Smart continued. “Honestly, my job is to put the best product, the best football team I can out there, and I need motivators, leaders of men. I need people that have offensive experience, knowledge. I’ll put him up against anybody in the country because of his knowledge, his experience, what he’s done, the staff he has.”
Kirby Smart isn't ready to move on from Mike Bobo yet
It is very easy to overreact after Georgia's season ended in the quarterfinals of the playoff for the second year in a row. But the displeasure some fans are showing is more than valid because Bobo did not call his best game against Ole Miss.
It is however important to point out that Bobo overall had a great season as Georgia's offensive play caller. He had Georgia's offense humming entering the playoff and they still scored a lot of points against the Rebels, but they did leave some points off the board that ended up costing them.
But even though Bobo was great during the regular season, this is the second year in a row he struggled in the playoff. At some point it shouldn't matter how he does during the regular season if he continues to struggle when it matters most.
Firing Bobo at this point though is a bit premature, but the fans that want him gone right now likely won't be getting their wish granted anytime soon.
