Every college football coach in the country likes to withhold information from the media. That is especially the case in the spring when coaches don't know as much about their rosters and don't want to give anything away to their future opponents. Kirby Smart however takes withholding information to another level.
During Georgia's first spring practice Smart was asked about the depth of his roster at certain positions. He was specifically asked by a local reporter if there was a position that stood out to him as already having a lot of good depth. And Smart unsurprisingly did not reveal any information on that subject.
"Yeah, we've talked about this many times in here," Smart said via 247Sports.com. "Nobody would be surprised by this answer: None."
Kirby Smart is withholding as much information as possible
One has to wonder why this reporter even bothered asking this question. As Smart mentioned this is a question that gets asked every year and he always answers it the same way. "None."
Smart said there isn't one position where he is confident in the depth they have. And while that might just be coach speak, there could be some truth to it.
There are undoubtedly some positions where Georgia is in a better position than others. The obvious is quarterback with Gunner Stockton returning and Georgia having two capable players behind him. But then there are positions like wide receiver that is full of young, inexperienced players.
The last thing Smart wants to do is call out any one position this early in the season and single them out. He also doesn't want to give too much confidence to one group of players either. So the best option is to do what he always does and say that there isn't one position that he is confident in right now.
