Jared Curtis was one of the highest ranked commits in Georgia’s 2026 recruiting class, but a late push from Vanderbilt led him to flip to the Commodores one day before Early Signing Day. This was a huge surprise for Georgia because Curtis had been locked in with the Bulldogs since May, but betrayal was on his mind as he turned his back on UGA for the second time in his recruitment.

No one will be surprised to learn that Kirby Smart was by Curtis decommitting. In fact, Smart was so disappointed by this decision that he unfollowed Curtis on social media which is not normal for him at all.

Smart is known for keeping in touch with players he heavily recruited whether they commit to Georgia or not. He understands that college football is a business and every player is just doing what they think is best for themselves, so if he loses a recruitment he typically isn’t too bothered. But Curtis’s recruitment apparently felt different because Smart has cut all ties with him already.

Georgia does get to play Vanderbilt at home next season, so that automatically is one game everyone at Georgia will have circled on their schedule. There is a very good chance that Curtis will be the starting QB for the Commodores as well, so that dynamic will be extremely interesting to follow in the lead up to that game.

Smart and his staff now have to work fast to find a replacement for Curtis. It’s unclear if they have any players on their radar right now, but if they can’t find someone in the 2026 recruiting class then they’ll have to dip their toes in the Transfer Portal.

But it’s safe to say that Smart is not happy, and he will be ready to get his revenge on Curtis next season.
