Vegas oddsmakers aren’t as high on Georgia this season as they’ve been in the past. They believe Georgia will only win 9.5 games this year, and if they somehow only won nine games the season would go down as a disaster.
Does this low of a win total mean that Georgia needs to reset their expectations? Some college football fans across the country might argue they should, but no one in Athens thinks it’s time to yet. In fact, every Georgia fan and person in the program still expects to win a National Championship this season.
And that includes Kirby Smart.
"I'm going to be honest with you: They can't get higher than I [have]. It makes for a great story, but I love it when they say, 'Expectations are higher this year.' Hell, the expectations are high every year, and they should be,” Smart said via 247sports.com.
Kirby Smart is backing down from Georgia’s lofty goals
Smart was asked earlier this week if expectations are higher this year than in years past. His response is as good as it gets because he said they aren’t any higher because it’s impossible to get any higher.
This means that every year Smart expects Georgia to win a national title, and this year is no different.
This comment goes hand in hand with what he said last week when it comes to winning the SEC. Smart acknowledged that winning the conference is a great accomplishment and something worth celebrating, but their failure the last few years to make any noise in the playoff is frustrating him.
He however isn’t letting those frustrations impact what he expects to happen going forward. Georgia is one of the few teams who can realistically compete for a national title every year, and Vegas projecting a low win total isn’t going to change that.
