Georgia has probably had nightmares about Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss after facing him twice last season. Georgia and Ole Miss split the two games they played during the 2025 season, but Chambliss had his way with the UGA defense in both games.
In those two games Chambliss threw for 625 yards and three touchdowns while also adding two touchdowns on the ground as well. Potentially more importantly though was that he didn't turn the ball over.
That is what it seems like Kirby Smart is most nervous about heading into Saturday's game. He knows that Chambliss is as dangerous as an quarterback in the country, but Smart is worried about him as a game manager as well.
"It's not the Wow plays. The Wow plays are what you guys love and what America loves," Kirby Smart said. "It's the down-in, down-out decision making that he's really elite at"
Trinidad Chambliss is more than a big play quarterback
The reason Chambliss is regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the country is because of his big play ability. He not only can accurately throw the ball deep down the field, but he can also scramble to avoid pressure and pickup big gains with his legs. That's how he beat Georgia in the playoff last year because the Bulldogs weren't able to bring him down when they got pressure on him in the backfield.
Smart however believes he is more than just a big play threat. When he isn't making big plays down the field Smart believes he is dangerous from the standpoint that he doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Sometimes that is more valuable than the occasional big play because when things break down it's important that a quarterback knows what to do with the football, and Smart believes Chambliss always knows what the right decision is.
The good news for Georgia though is that so far this season Chambliss may not be as good of a decision maker as Smart is making him out to be.
Trinidad Chambliss has taken a quiet step back in 2026
One of the ways we can see if Chambliss has been a good decision maker this year is by looking at the amount of turnovers he's had. Unfortunately for him he has turned the ball over almost three times as much as the entire 2025 season.
Through eight games this year Chambliss already has eight interceptions. Last year in 15 games played he only threw three interceptions. That shows that he is a worse decision maker this year compared to last year, but that doesn't mean he's been bad.
Chambliss is still more than capable of lighting up the stat sheet on any given night. That's exactly what he's done the two times he's played Georgia in his career, so entering Saturday's matchup he will have a lot of confidence even if he hasn't been as good this season.
Kickoff between Georgia and Ole Miss is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 pm EST.
