Georgia football is off and running in spring ball as they are four practices deep with their fifth practice taking place on Thursday. And while Georgia fans are unable to watch these practices themselves, they do get to hear a lot of updates from the media as well as from Kirby Smart himself.
Smart spoke with the media earlier this week and detailed how he feels his team is performing so far this spring, and unfortunately it sounds like things are not going as well as Smart or anyone would have hoped.
"Long way from good. We are a work in progress," Smart shared via 247Sports.com. "We have the least number of players who have gone through three spring practices since I've been here. So that should tell you something. I asked the guys to stand up who have practiced at least three spring practices, so this obviously would make their fourth. There's basically nobody standing. We just don't, we have a very young, inexperienced group. We really can't practice to our standard because they're all tired."
Thankfully it's only spring
One group Smart specifically pointed out was the freshman wide receivers, who Smart said are unable to get through a normal amount of reps during practice. However, Smart explains in the above quote why that might be the case.
The biggest reason why Georgia is a "long way from good" is because of the inexperience of this team. And that doesn't just mean from freshman, but from anyone who is new to the UGA program.
The good news is that it is only spring, so Georgia has plenty of time to work through these growing pains throughout the spring and summer. But hopefully Georgia is able to do that in a hurry, because every day that passes where Georgia isn't meeting the standard expected of them is another wasted day of the offseason.
