Georgia football will face a lot of challenges with their quarterback room during fall camp. The biggest challenge in front of them is deciding who their starting QB will be for their season opener on Aug. 30, but there is a bigger dilemma facing Georgia as they begins fall camp.
Kirby Smart discussed on Thursday what he thinks is Georgia's biggest difficulty when it comes to their quarterbacks, and he detailed that the biggest hurdle they face is having enough reps for all of the Bulldogs quarterbacks, specifically their third and fourth string QBs.
"Yeah, I think everybody in the country has that problem," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "That's not unique to us. So as coaches, the problem is not getting the one and two enough reps. Absolutely there's enough reps to go around. The problem is getting the three and the four enough reps to go around, and we have to be creative to do that."
Kirby Smart wants each QB to get plenty of reps
Smart knows that a majority of the quarterback reps during fall camp need to go to Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi. They are the top two options at QB this season and they are still in an open competition to see who the starter will be, so they need as many reps as they can get right now.
But Smart knows that they can't ignore the quarterbacks further down the depth chart as well. Not only do they need reps for their development as their career progresses over the years, but no one knows what could happen this seaon. It isn't too often that a team has to move on to their third string quarterback in a season, but all it takes is two injuries and Georgia's third string QB will need to be ready to go.
So while the vast majority of reps and attention will be given to Stockton and Puglisi, Georgia has to find some more opportunities to give to their younger and more inexperienced quarterbacks as well.
