Potentially the biggest concern surrounding Georgia right now is the health of their offensive line. The Bulldogs have three injuries they are currently dealing with, but Kirby Smart just shared a positive update on the injury suffered by Monroe Freeling during Georgia's win over Kentucky on Saturday.
"Monroe has an ankle, probably not as severe as we thought. No surgery,” Smart shared via dawgnation.com. “Hopeful we get him back. Think there’s a chance."
Kirby Smart believes key offensive lineman could be back this week
Freeling went down with an early injury against Kentucky during the first drive of the game. He never made a return after this injury, so this created a lot of concern surrounding his health going forward.
But thankfully this injury isn't as serious as anyone thought. It sounds like surgery was initially on the table for him, but after further evaluation Smart is confident enough to say that won't be necessary. In fact, Smart thinks there is even a chance that he will be good to go against Auburn this weekend.
Freeling did not practice on Monday to allow him some more time to heal up. But that could be exactly what he needs to be ready to go by Saturday, and it goes without saying how badly Georgia needs him in the lineup.
Fellow offensive lineman Earnest Greene has missed Georgia's last two games and he may not be ready to play by this weekend. Micah Morris also picked up a minor injury against Kentucky as well, but he was able to play through it.
The last thing Georgia needs right now is another offenisve lineman out for their upcoming game against Auburn. So Freeling's status this week immediately becomes the most important thing to monitor throughout this week as Georgia prepares for their annual matchup against the Tigers.
