Gunner Stockton or Ryan Puglisi. One of these two will be the starting quarterback for Georgia this fall, but at this point it’s unclear who that will be.

G-Day on Saturday provided both players with their best opportunity yet to show why they deserve to be the starter, and while both players had great moments they also struggled a little at times as well. So the consensus coming out of G-Day is that this competition is still ongoing with both players having a chance to win it.

But Kirby Smart did share something very interesting on Saturday after G-Day, and his comments makes it sound like Stockton is the frontrunner right now.

"He has growth. He's still probably a little bit behind Gunner in terms of the knowledge of the offense, but he's catching up in regards to that, right? He's getting experience, knowing when to pull it down and run it, when to throw it away, just game management decisions," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "He's not gonna do anything but get better. And they're both great kids who have a great relationship with each other. And we're very lucky to have two guys that care so much about Georgia. And they're not worried about the perception or whatever you're gonna write coming out of the scrimmage of your view of them. They don't care. They care about the team, and that's what I care about."

Stockton sounds like the leader post G-Day

Smart shared in the above quote that Stockton has an advantage over Puglisi when it comes to knowing the offense. And while that may not sound like a big deal, that could very easily be the difference between Stockton winning the job and Puglisi being the backup.

As mentioned, both players had similar performances during G-Day, so that is why knowing the offense better is a huge advantage for Stockton.

But at the end of the day, it’s the last comment from Smart that is most exciting. Smart shared that neither player cares about the outside perception of this competition. He stated that both players love Georgia and only want to get better and will do anything to accomplish that.

So maybe it doesn’t matter who ends up winning the starting job, because it sounds like both players are doing very well and are capable of leading Georgia to a lot of success in the fall.
