Kirby Smart's illustrious career has been plauged by an Alabama problem. Before this season Georgia was a miserable 1-7 against the Crimson Tide during his tenure, but their victory over Alabama in the SEC Championship game this season helped end the narrative that Smart can't beat them.
Even though Smart has gotten over his Alabama problem, he now has a more pressing issue he must face because he has a problem when it comes to beating Ole Miss.
Kirby Smart can't seem to consistently beat Ole Miss
Struggling to beat Alabama was extremely frustrating, but it made sense. Alabama was always the top dog in the college football world, so if Georgia was going to struggle to beat anyone they were always the school that made the most sense.
Struggling to beat Ole Miss though is a different story.
Smart has a dominant record against every team not named Alabama and Ole Miss in his career. In fact, these are the only two SEC schools he has a losing record to thanks to his 2-3 record against the Rebels.
Georgia lost to Ole Miss in Smart's first season as a head coach, but fans are more or less okay to ignore that defeat. But ever since then Georgia has been one of the best programs in the country, so their 2-2 record against the Rebels since then is not good enough.
It's hard to say why Georgia has struggled to beat Ole Miss so much. The Rebels have not been a very good team overall outside of this past season, so they are a team that Georgia should have no issue beating, but that just hasn't been the case.
Georgia may find more success against Ole Miss now that Lane Kiffin is gone, but until then they officially have a problem with them. Georgia will travel to Ole Miss towards the end of this season, so they will have a chance to bring Smart's record back to 3-3 with a victory. A loss however would be disastrous as a 2-4 record against them would be impossible to explain.
