No doubt about it. Kirby Smart was sitting on this one for a minute. During Monday night's Football Writers Association of America in Gainesville, it devolved more into a roast than an awards ceremony. Smart was front and center of it all. Whether it be a playful back-and-forth with Miami head coach Mario Cristobal, or this well-timed takedown of new Florida head coach Jon Sumrall, it was hilarious.
When Smart took to the stage, he used Steve Spurrier and his daughter to poke fun at poor Sumrall.
"Coach Sumrall, I gotta ask you a question:" He then proceeded to walk over to Spurrier and put his arm around him. To Spurrier: "Is your daughter a realtor? Did I hear that right? Is she the best realtor in Gainesville? One of the best, okay... Then back to Sumrall: "Well, you're the fourth coach I've played since I've been at Georgia, so she's getting a lot of money selling houses! She's going through them!"
Here is the video clip of Smart using Spurrier's realtor daughter to mock Florida and Sumrall big time.
They don't call him King Kirby for nothin' 🤣 #GoDawgs pic.twitter.com/MY8q0b8Q7F

While Georgia will occasionally lose to Florida on the gridiron, Smart has established a bit of a stranglehold on the Bulldogs' arch rival in recent years. It has been primarily a decade of dominance for the Dawgs since Smart took over. Georgia has won the last five meetings dating back to 2021. Dan Mullen got the best of UGA during the COVID year, but Billy Napier never beat Smart at Florida...
Sumrall was hired away from Tulane to be the one to do what Napier never could while leading Florida.
Kirby Smart uses Steve Spurrier's daughter to perfectly troll Jon Sumrall
For Smart to say all that he did about Florida while he was in Gainesville, it just shows that he knows that the state of the Gators program is not anywhere in the same vicinity as Georgia's. When he was in school, Spurrier's teams ran roughshod on Smart's Bulldogs. Whether he was playing for Ray Goff or Jim Donnan, it did not matter. Georgia made things more competitive under Mark Richt, sort of...
The good news for Florida is Sumrall has won everywhere he has been before. The bad news is Florida is a much more difficult job than Tulane or Troy could ever hope to be. For Florida to have the success it needs to knock Georgia down a peg, the Gators need a head coach the caliber of Spurrier or Urban Meyer. Could Sumrall grow into that? Well, Napier, Mullen, and Jim McElwain never could...
For now, Smart leads the two-time defending SEC champion Bulldogs. Georgia is one of only four teams to make the College Football Playoff in back-to-back seasons in the 12-team format. They are only one out of the SEC to pull this off, too. Furthermore, he is the only head coach to win back-to-back national championships in the College Football Playoff era. They call him King Kirby for a reason.
While Sumrall may get the best of Georgia at some point, the Bulldogs remain so strong and powerful.
