Georgia football survived the upset bid from Florida by taking down the Gators 24-20. It wasn’t pretty by any means, but the Bulldogs found a way to survive and that is all that matters.

Gunner Stockton, who was coming off a five touchdown performance against Ole Miss, did not have his best game against Florida. He by no means played poorly, but he would be the first to say that he would’ve liked to play better.

But Kirby Smart was still pleased with he played, and he chose to use the word “gamer” to describe Stockton’s performance against Florida.

"I mean, he's a gamer, right? He plays better as the game goes on than when he has to,” Smart said via 247Sports.com. “I didn't think that he played his best game. I think they did some good things defensively. They're really tight coverage, very different than Ole Miss. I mean, it just was a different kind of defense.”

Kirby Smart used the word “gamer” to describe Gunner Stockton vs Florida

”Gamer” is the perfect word to describe Stockton against Florida. Smart used this word to praise Stockton for never giving up on Saturday even though he didn’t have his best stuff for most of the night.

Georgia’s offense had a few good drives during the first three quarters of the game, but they lacked consistency that resulted in Florida staying in the game. But instead of getting frustrated, Stockton kept his head in the game and waited for his time to shine. And that time finally came after Georgia’s defense got a big fourth down stop midway through the fourth quarter.

Stockton and Georgia got the ball back in their own territory and immediately marched down the field to score the game-winning touchdown. Had Stockton checked out of the game mentally this drive probably never happens. But thankfully Stockton was a gamer and was ready for this moment so he could deceiver for his team.

So while everyone hopes Stockton will get back to the version they saw against Ole Miss, it’s good to know that a bad play or drive won’t slow him down. Stockton will keep his head in the game and will always be ready for the next moment to help Georgia win just like he did against Florida on Saturday.

And that is the sign of a true leader.
