Kirby Smart voices one big concern with Georgia’s offense after Oklahoma win

For those who didn't watch Georgia play Oklahoma they'll see the 41-13 final score and think the Bulldogs dominated. In many ways they did, but those that watched the game saw that Georgia was far from playing their best football.

Kirby Smart agrees with that assessment. He understands that Oklahoma has one of the best defenses they will play against this season, but he still wasn't satisfied with the overall effort from Georgia's offense.

Georgia's second half struggles can't be ignored

Georgia entered halftime leading Oklahoma 28-0. It's hard to find anything to complain about when that is the case, but overall the first half was a solid performance by the offense. Then the second half began and it looked like Georgia's offense forgot how to play football.

The Bulldogs had five offensive drives in the third quarter and they only scored three points. Gunner Stockton threw his first interception of the season, the Bulldogs had a costly fumble and their two other drives (other than their field goal) ended in punts within five plays. Oklahoma's defense is good enough where they were going to win some series throughout this game, but Smart wanted to see his offense be more physical than Oklahoma all game and he doesn't think that happened.

It will be easy to look at the final score and be happy with the result. Any good team would be extremely proud of a 28 point win over Oklahoma, but Georgia's goals are much greater than that. Georgia wants to win championships, and the performance from the offense on Saturday may not have been good enough to win a championship this season.

Oklahoma's defense was a test that Georgia didn't fully pass

The good news for Georgia's offense is that Oklahoma was the first good defense they faced all season. That doesn't excuse the moments where they played poorly, but it helps explain why they may have struggled while showing them where they need to improve to avoid similar issues in the future.

The first three games of Georgia's season did a good job of helping them build confidence. They were able to score at will without facing too much resistance from the opposition, and that can be a good way to start a season. Georgia inevitably was going to play against a good defense though and that's what happened against Oklahoma. Unfortunately they didn't fully pass this test even if they won by 28.

Georgia's offense struggling might be a good thing in the long run though. Playing a defense like Oklahoma this early in the season will expose the areas that they need to work on the most, and for Smart it's clear that he thinks they need to be more physical. Georgia's tight end room needs to step up as well after only recording three catches for eight yards as a group. Gunner Stockton left a lot to be desired as well.

Georgia should be happy that they were still able to win with ease even without playing their best on offense, but if they don't improve then it may just be a matter of time until a better team is able to take advantage and beat them.
