It goes without saying that Lane Kiffin would like to see Ole Miss keep winning in the playoff. Sure he is no longer coaching the team, but he went through an entire season with that group and would love to see them win a championship.
On top of that, LSU agreed to pay Kiffin the bonuses Ole Miss would have paid him based on the Rebels finish in the playoff. This likely is why Kiffin is offering the Rebels some advice before their matchup with Georgia on Thursday.
However, even though Kiffin wants to see Ole Miss win he still is one of the biggest advantages that Georgia has in their corner entering this game.
Lane Kiffin is indirectly helping Georgia beat Ole Miss
Kiffin is bringing a lot of his Ole Miss staff to LSU with him. He however is letting them finish coaching for the Rebels throughout the rest of their playoff run before joining him at LSU full time. These staff members however are working two jobs as they are still doing some work for LSU on the recruiting trail while also helping Ole Miss prepare for their upcoming matchup with Georgia.
This means that they are not devoting their full attention on getting ready for Georgia. That is a recipe for disaster because the Bulldogs are too good of a team to not give all of your attention. Georgia's staff is also devoting all of their time to prepare for Ole Miss, so that gives UGA a clear advantage over Ole Miss.
It will be interesting to see if this advantage plays out on the field when these teams battle on Thursday. Regardles, it is impossible to ignore how Kiffin's departure isn't significantly improving Georgia's chances at winning and advancing to the College Football Playoff semifinals.
