Georgia’s 2028 recruiting class is off and running thanks to the commitment from five-star quarterback Jayden Wade. He is the top ranked signal caller in the country, so his commitment puts Georgia in position to potentially sign the No. 1 2028 recruiting class.
Kirby Smart however isn’t satisfied with putting all his chips in Wade’s basket. He unfortunately has said he is still going to take other visits, so Smart is doing his due diligence by getting a backup plan in place.
Four-star Kaden Craft appears to be one of their top options to replace Wade if needed, but Lane Kiffin is making sure to stand in Georgia’s way of building a better relationship.
Craft is the nation’s No. 6 QB in the 2028 class. He’s picked up a #GoDawgs and an LSU offer this week.

He plays for Lake Norman HS in North Carolina. He threw for 17 TDs and ran for another 13 last fall. https://t.co/EQRwtvhHcP
Lane Kiffin and Kirby Smart are targeting the same QB
Georgia just offered Craft a scholarship this week. This means that there hasn’t been much of a relationship formed with him yet, but Smart and his staff want him to get to know Georgia a lot better.
The only problem is that Kiffin and LSU offered him a scholarship this week as well. And considering LSU doesn’t have a quarterback committed to their 2028 class yet, Craft likely prefers them over Georgia right now.
If Georgia holds onto Wade’s commitment then this won’t be a problem. He is their No. 1 choice in the 2028 class regardless of what happens, so as long as he sticks with Georgia it doesn’t matter what Craft or anyone else does. But Smart still wants to have some backup plans in place, and there really isn’t a better insurance policy than the No. 6 quarterback in the country.
Kiffin knows that Georgia has a commitment from Wase, so as he recruits Craft he will probably make sure to remind him of that. This will impact Georgia’s ability to grow closer to him because Craft isn’t their first option, so Kiffin could be the one person that really screws Georgia over if they do end up losing Wade’s commitment.
