Kirby Smart asked for a favor from Georgia's fans during their upcoming matchup against Ole Miss. And the favor was simple, be as loud as they can possibly be.
That seems like an obvious thing to do because of how big of a matchup this is against Ole Miss, but Smart wanted to make sure that the fanbase knew what their job was this weekend. Lane Kiffin however got word of this message from Smart, and he clapped back like he usually does as he suggested the increased crowd noise will do more harm than good for Georgia.
"I heard Kirby (Smart) talking about the noise, and (how they) need it to be the loudest the stadium’s ever been. So I’m sure it will be,” Kiffin shared via si.com. “But both (teams) have to play in the noise.”
"They (Georgia) actually verbally communicate more on defense than we do on offense, [so it] should be a rare game like that,” Kiffin continued. “So, you know, I think that the noise is not the biggest factor at all in the game. It’ll be blocking, tackling, catching, throwing and taking care of the football."
Lane Kiffin thinks a loud crowd will hurt Georgia
Kiffin made it pretty clear that he thinks a loud crowd Saturday night will hurt Georgia more than it will hurt his offense. The reason he thinks this way is because he believes Georgia's defense commuicates more before the snap than the Ole Miss offense does. If that is the case, then there may be some truth to this statement from Kiffin.
But it's hard to know if Kiffin actually believes this or if he is just taking a shot at Georgia and their fans for fun.
Regardless of what Kiffin thinks, Georgia's fans should be as loud as they possibly can all game long. If Smart thinks that will help the team then that is what everyone should do. But it is worth monitoring if this noise is impacting the Ole Miss offense at all, because there is a chance Kiffin is right and this hurts Georgia more than it helps them.
