If you’re looking for a new favorite player, you might want to consider Georgia tight end Lawson Luckie. Ahead of the Bulldogs’ Week 12 clash with Texas, ESPN’s College Gameday profiled Luckie’s decision to play in Athens, just an hour from his hometown of Norcross, Georgia, so he can help take care of his younger brother Cannon, who was born without a portion of his brain and is blind and deaf.
"At the end of the day, I need to be close to home."

As much as Lawson Luckie could’ve been the big man on any campus, he’s always prioritized an even bigger role, as a big brother to Cannon. He tells @JenLada how Georgia football made his dream a reality ❤️ pic.twitter.com/PuZ0GwEtn0
Lawson Luckie is everyone's new favorite player
Lawson considers Cannon, who was eventually diagnosed with FOXG1 syndrome, his biggest inspiration. FOXG1 is a gene that helps in brain development, which Cannon is missing. He also has cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
With Cannon in attendance on Saturday night at Samford Stadium, Lawson reached the end zone with a six-yard touchdown catch, his fourth of the season, to put the Dawgs up 28-10 on No. 10 Texas. Georgia held on to win 35-10.

Just like Jen Lada’s College Gameday profile of Lawson Luckie and his family, Luckie’s touchdown catch pulled on Georgia fan’s heart strings. His dedication to his family is inspiring, and their story is one of the best in college football.

A four-star recruit, Luckie could have gone anywhere to play college football, but he realized his dreams close to home, so he could continue to help his family and his youngest brother. Not only is he a great sibling, but he’s a great player for Kirby Smart’s team. While playing in a deep tight end rotation with Oscar Delp, the 6-foot-4 junior had a three touchdown game against Ole Miss earlier this season, and was a feared part of the passing game in Georgia’s win over Tennessee in Week 3.
Man I wasn’t ready for the Lawson Luckie brother segment. Celebrating a TD and semi crying was definitely a new feeling.

Some Georgia fans weren’t quite ready for the rush of emotions that they would feel after Luckie’s latest trip to the end zone after hearing about his remarkable story. Even Texas fans couldn’t help but feel good for a player like Luckie.
Sure I’m a Longhorn, but I am now forever a Lawson Luckie fan - that’s a good young man

This wasn’t the first time that Cannon was in attendance for his brother’s exploits. He was there for his three-touchdown performance against the Rebels earlier this season, and after Luckie’s second score, he ran across the end zone to point to his younger brother.
