ESPN’s College GameDay has been one of the best things to ever happen to college football. The show has been around for decades and has been the perfect way to kickoff college football Saturdays, no matter what game they are attending that week.

Georgia football has become a frequent flyer for GameDay’s show over the last decade as they have made countless appearances on the show. UGA has even hosted GameDay many times as well, including this past season when Tennessee came to town.

But GameDay is seeing a major shakeup heading into the 2025 season as legend Lee Corso has announced his retirement.

Lee Corso stepping down from GameDay

Corso announced on Thursday that he is retiring from ESPN’s College GameDay after an astounding 38-year run with the program.

Corso quickly became one of the faces of college football as GameDay’s popularity rose as he always brought a lot of humor and great analysis to the show. However, as the years have gone on, it was obvious that his age was getting to him, so most felt that it was nearing his time to leave the show. But a legend like Corso deserves to go out on his own terms, and that is exactly what he is doing.

Corso’s last appearance on the show will be week one of the upcoming college football season on Aug. 30. GameDay’s location for this week has not been announced yet, but the choice is obvious.

Texas travels to Ohio State week one in what will likely be a top five matchup. That alone makes this a very easy choice, for GameDay, but there’s another reason why GameDay should head to Columbus for Corso’s final show.

Everyone knows Corso’s tradition of putting on the headgear of the team he is picking to win for the host site’s game, and the first time Corso ever did this he put the headgear of Ohio State’s mascot on. So there really is no better way for Corso to go out then to put on the Buckeye headgear one more time.

So here’s to celebrating an amazing career from Corso, a career that has touched the lives of every college football fan in the country. GameDay will be weird without Corso, but he more than deserves the proper send-off he’ll receive during his final show at the start of this season.
